New PSP Savedata Exploit Found
Feb 9th
That’s right! Over at QJ.net, word is out that a team of PSP modders have discovered a new savedata for the console. It is reported to work on all PSPs, on 6.20 firmware, but this code is currently being kept under wraps, and only shared amongst top developers in the scene.
Will this be yet another exploit found by the modders to conquer the official firmware? Only time will tell.
How To Put A Custom Coldboot Onto Your PSP
Nov 28th
So, before you ask, the coldboot is the text that comes up when you start your PSP which says “Sony Computer Entertainment”. This guide will teach you to change it to whatever you want!
What You Need
A PSP On Custom Firmware below 4.01M33
MS Paint
What You Do
Boot your PSP into recovery mode (hold down R while turning on), select ‘Advanced’ and toggle Flash0 USB to ‘on’.
Next use your PSP USB cable and connect it to your computer. A device should be detected. Navigate into the device and follow the
path VSH/Resource. In the Resource folder locate “opening_plugin.rco” and copy to it somewhere handy on your PC, such as
your desktop. Do not delete the .rco from your PSP’s flash! It may cause a brick!
Next, use the .bmp. It says “freepspblog.com” on it, and that is the text it will show on your PSP on startup. If you want your
own personalised one, just right click on the image and select “open with Paint”. Then, you can press CTRL+A then Delete, and
turn the colour on to black and fill that small box. Do not change the size. It must be that size. Then turn the colour on to white
and draw/type what you want in white. When you are done make sure you are saving it as a 24-bit bitmap.
Once you are satisfied with the picture, open up the RCO Editor application. Click ‘Open RCO’, then navigate to your
opening_plugin.rco extracted from the PSP flash memory. You should get lots of weird names beginning with codes like [MIG],
[VAG], and [OMG]. Don’t get confused by them; they are pretty irrelevent for now. Click on ‘[MIG] tex_logo’, and select the
‘Replace’ button on the right. Navigate to the .bmp. Then just leave it for a few seconds, and the editor should modify the .rco.
Then just connect your PSP back in flash0, and put it in the VSH/Resource folder, replacing the opening_plugin.rco. Make sure
you always have a backup of all of the files you modify.
If all goes well, you should start up your PSP and there is your custom coldboot.
And here’s my YouTube guide on how to change the PSP’s coldboot.
